SOCKS5 Proxy Mini-Howto

Purpose

This document will walk you through setting up a SOCKS5 proxy server on your Linux box. At the end of this document, you will have:

  • setup a SOCKS5 proxy server
  • configured various clients (such as ICQ) to go throught the proxy

Configuration

In this howto, I use my server configuration in the examples that are provided.  I run Redhat 5.1, so if your system is set up similar to mine you can simply cut and paste the commands in the examples, otherwise, be sure to make appropriate changes before issuing commands.
