Purpose

Disclaimer

I cannot guarantee the accuracy or correctness of the information I present in this howto. What I describe here is basically a log of what I had to do to set up my mail server. I cannot be held responsible for any damage done to your systems, use this information at your own risk!

That being said though, if you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please send me email at ying @ zippydesign dot com :).

Configuration

In this howto, I use my server configuration in the examples that are provided. If your system is set up similar to mine you can simply cut and paste the commands in the examples, otherwise, be sure to make appropriate changes before issuing commands.

My system is setup as follows:

  • Redhat Linux 5.1 (i386)
  • Using Shadow Passwords
  • New messages are stored in ~/mail/inbox
  • The IMAP mail folders are stored in ~/mail

The main difference in how you setup your box and how mine is setup will likely be where you choose to store your messages.
