Hello out there! It's Ying and Jenie again...guess you came this page to read a little bit about us...what can we tell you about us? Well, we can start out by telling you a little story...the story of how there became an "us" in the first place.
THE STORY OF US
The date was March 25th, the year 2001. The location was Vancouver, beautiful British Columbia, Canada. It was a dreary Sunday morning and the rain was coming down in a light drizzle. As with every Sunday morning for the past month, the Synergy Dragonboat team was holding their morning practice at the Plaza of Nations at False Creek. Earlier that week, Jenie was told by her friends that Team Synergy still needed someone to be their drummer. Her friends: Ros, Carmen, Ian, Eugene and Ray, were already paddlers on the team. So, Jenie decided to come along to see if the spot was still vacant. That was the fateful day that Ying caught his first glimpse of Jenie and thought, "Wow!...What a hottie."
Jenie became the drummer and sat at the very front of the boat, while Ying, the steersperson, stood at the very back of the boat. For the next few of months Ying tried his best to get Jenie's attention (this was a very difficult task as Ying was a shorty). Meanwhile, Jenie thought, "that steersperson is a cutie...he looks like a little kid." Ying can still remember the first words Jenie spoke to him, "Next time we'll try your 7-16's." (If you're a dragonboater, that would be funny to you.)
And so, over time, Ying became friends with Jenie and her friends on the team. Ying got his first big break when Ros invited him along on a hike up to Elfin Lake. On that hike, Ying was able to chat with Jenie and get to know her a bit more. Jenie's impression of Ying was that he was a nice guy...says "nasty" a lot...
After the hike, Ying began to chat with Jenie on ICQ. He would leave his computer on all day just so he could catch her whenever she went online. In time, he also became bolder and invited her to such outings as rollerblading, bubbletea, dinner and shopping . We will never forget the time Ying tricked Jenie into their first "date" to watch Final Fantasy. Ying had even come over to Jenie's house one Saturday to wash her car. Jenie thought that was a little strange, but attributed it to a guy's attraction to a nice car.
Finally, after much debate and selfdoubt, Ying found the courage to tell Jenie his feelings towards her. It was the 16th of August; a Thursday. Earlier in the day Ying had helped Jenie buy a bicycle helmet and they had eaten dinner at the Cactus Club with Ying's friend Richard. When they got to Jenie's house at the end of the night, Ying suggested that Jenie try out her helmet by bicycling around the neighbourhood while he rollerbladed with her. Since Ying had grown up in Jenie's neighbourhood, and Jenie had just recently moved there, Ying showed her around: his aunt's house (where he used to live), his friends' houses, his elementary school and lastly, Churchill, his old high school. There, the two took a break, and there Ying professed his feelings. Jenie didn't know what to say. She thought that Ying was a nice guy and that he always did nice things for her. But, she never saw him as more than just a friend. She liked the way things were and didn't want to ruin it and she told Ying as much. Although this was not the answer that Ying was hoping for, it was not a flat out rejection either, so Ying was still hopeful.
During the ensuing days, things between Ying and Jenie were not much different, although they talked about relationships more. On Saturday, August 25th, Ying brought Jenie up to Pemberton for some horseback riding. On the way back to Vancouver, Jenie decided to give Ying a chance. Ying was always so nice to her, always doing things for her. So, when Ying shyly asked if he could hold her hand, Jenie said, "If you want to." And Ying has never let go of Jenie's hand since...
